Let's talk about Doodles. Doodles are becoming one of the most popular breeds right now. There are so many different types of Doodles like Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Bernedoodles and more! They can be mini or giant and they have many different types of coats. Some have wavy, curly, fleecy, wirey, or a combination of these coats. Contrary to common belief, some Doodles have undercoats and DO shed, some do not. It is not one size fits all when it comes to Doodles, but we do know that all Doodles require A LOT of grooming.
This page goes over our recommendations for the proper care of doodle coats and our procedures for grooming them.

Puppies
Grooming starts at home. The second you get your puppy, you want to introduce them to brushing, and being handled. Some sensitive areas you want your puppy to get used to being handled are the paws, face and tail. Professional grooming can start as early as 8 weeks old. During your puppies first few appointments, we will work with them to get used to the salon processes and the tools we use. Their first few appointments will consist of a bath, blow out, brushing and combing, trimming of the eye area, paws, and sanitary area. These appointments will set your puppy up for success for their future haircuts. We will not rush your pet into a haircut. Doing so can cause stress and create a fear of grooming that can last a lifetime. Grooming should be a regular routine for your pet, so staying on a consistent schedule is a must! We recommend booking your appointments for the full year.
Puppy Coats
Puppy coats are soft, and easy to manage. But as they get older, their coat will undergo many changes and it's up to you to keep their coat healthy. Keeping them on a grooming schedule will definitely help keep their coats healthy, but daily brushing is also required. Especially for any type of Poodle/Doodle.
Around 4-8 months, their adult coat will start to come in and it is usually a very different texture than their puppy coat. This change will last for several months and most puppies do not have their full adult coat until they are 8-14 months old. Many doodle coats resist shedding, this can cause severe matting as their puppy coat falls out and gets trapped under their adult coat. The coat change process requires diligent and frequent brushing as well as regular grooming to prevent matting.
Coat Care and Maintenance
There are 3 factors that go into keeping your pet mat-free and looking their best!
Frequency of professional grooming
At-home maintenance
Length of haircut
We will work with each client to find a balance between these factors that suit your budget, lifestyle and aesthetic preferences.
For example, pets with long haircuts will need more frequent grooming appointments and will require a lot more at-home maintenance. On the other hand, if you go with a shorter haircut you can go longer in between appointments (we never recommend going more than 6 weeks without an appointment.)
